Both turmeric and cinnamon are popular spices around the world and used to enhance the foods we eat. Both have a distinct taste and are quite versatile in their abilities to be added to a number of recipes. Turmeric is also known as one of the healthiest spices we can consume and offers an incredible range of health benefits. The same can be said about cinnamon. When we combine these two wonderful spices together, they become a nutrient and health powerhouse that can improve your overall health a number of different ways. Lets discuss the health benefits of eating turmeric mixed with cinnamon consistently.
Cinnamon is a wonderful spice, that works great in oatmeal recipes or even in shakes. It is very good for our health, and has even been used for its healing and medicinal properties around the world. It contains a health friendly compound known as cinnamaldehyde, which many of its health benefits can be attributed to. It is packed with a variety of protective antioxidants that work to reduce free radical damage and reduce the signs of aging. Some studies even suggest that cinnamon alone has 41 different protective compounds! This, along with the various flavonoid compounds it contains, makes it great for reducing inflammation throughout our entire body.
Cinnamon also has anti-microbial effects, along with anti-fungal and anti-viral properties. This makes it great for boosting our immunity when consumed consistently and also to fight different infections and viruses. Cinnamon can also promote heart health, while reducing “bad” LDL cholesterol levels and promoting “good” HDL cholesterol in the body. If that wasn’t enough, it can reduce high blood pressure and high triglyceride levels. It can also help with blood sugar control, lower blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity, making it helpful for those individuals with diabetes.
Turmeric also has incredible health benefits when it is consumed consistently. It is often regarded as a “miracle herb” or spice. It has incredible anti-inflammatory properties due to the compound curcumin which it contains. This can help with pain management. As well, like cinnamon, it has many antioxidants within it which can reduce oxidative stress in the body and increase antioxidant enzyme levels. Turmeric is also great detoxifying the entire body and important organs so that they can function properly and effectively. Some of turmeric’s other great health benefits include improving the digestive system, promoting heart health, improving the skin, bone and joint health and also immune system boosting.
When combined together, turmeric and cinnamon are a health promoting powerhouse. In addition to being great for inflammation, heart health, energy, the health of your skin and loaded with antioxidants, to name just a few benefits, they also provide an incredible range of healthy vitamins, minerals and nutrients. The combination is a great source of manganese, calcium, vitamin K, iron, vitamin B6, fibre and amino acids.
Please note, when consuming turmeric and cinnamon consistently, a little bit goes a long way! You do not need to be consuming these spices in large doses to obtain their benefits. Discuss with your medical practitioner the correct dosage for you and how you can obtain these great benefits.
One way to consume this incredible mixture is to prepare a turmeric and cinnamon paste. If possible, try to use organic turmeric and cinnamon powder. Add 1 teaspoon of turmeric and 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon to a bit of raw honey. The cinnamon and honey will help the taste of the turmeric and make it easy to consume. You can always just throw the turmeric and cinnamon powder into your smoothies as well. Again, discuss with your doctor the correct dosages and ingredients for you.
