I've been taking a teaspoon a day with a quarter teaspoon of black pepper. It definitely helps. It lowers your blood pressure quite a bit though, so you can't eat garlic or onions or take any blood thinner/blood pressure medications if you take that much.

A teaspoon is 5 grams, which is a good therapeutic dose, but it's twice the recommended maintenance dose. It can also give you gastro discomfort at first and even cause schizophrenia-like hallucinations (auditory hallucinations, paranoia, visual distortions), but that all passes as you acclimate.
