It's interesting… I think in a completely different way now.

How Capitalism has given birth to Big Pharma which in turn defines our medical system.

Reading online, in different articles, about how small amounts of turmeric consumed regularly protects the brain and cognitive function is reason to feel positive… Except for alzheimers research charities who seem to be luke warm about it…

Why is that I wonder? Could it be that these charities are inextricably tied up with Big Pharma?

Would like to know the recommended dosage to achieve effect. I take 2 caps / day with little to no noticeable benefit….probably need to at least double my dose.

Ashwin Patel says:

Perhaps Bioavailability of Curcumin/Turmeric is not important for its beneficial actions? After all, it is used in India/Asia as Turmeric and in small amounts in cooking.

Recent studies have shown that increased intestinal permeability results in the leakage of pro-inflammatory molecules (cytokines and lipopolysaccharides) from gut into the circulation in diseases such as CKD, diabetes and atherosclerosis. This change in intestinal permeability is due to decreased expression of tight junction proteins and intestinal alkaline phosphatase (IAP). Curcumin increases the expression of IAP and tight junction proteins and corrects gut permeability. This action reduces the levels of circulatory inflammatory biomolecules. This effect of curcumin on intestine can explain why, despite poor bioavailability, curcumin has potential anti-inflammatory effects in vivo and beneficial
effects on CKD.
